Our Story
In 1979, three brothers, John, David, and Phil, along with their sister Kristen and parents, left South Korea for a new life in America. They started their journey by operating a Pizza Hut in the mid-1980s, eventually transitioning to managing a family-owned seafood restaurant.
In the late 1980s, they shifted gears and ventured into convenience stores with gasoline sales, closing down the seafood restaurant. The brothers' entrepreneurial spirit led them to diversify their focus, expanding into real estate and gasoline operations in the early 1990s. This marked the beginning of AmKo Petroleum, Fairway One-Stop Gas Stations, and a growing convenience store chain.
As their vision expanded further, John introduced a prepaid wireless marketing and distribution company called Spectrum Wireless in the mid-1990s. Reflecting their unity and commitment, the brothers adopted JP&D Financial, Inc. as their corporate name in the late 1990s, with each letter representing their initials.
In 2002, tragedy struck when Phil, the youngest brother, passed away at the age of 36. Undeterred by this loss, John and David persevered, determined to carry on their shared dream. They continued to expand the company's operations, embracing commercial financial services such as credit card merchant services, Spectrum ATM, and Spectrum Bankard Services in the mid-2000s.
Today, JP&D Financial, Inc. stands as a testament to their resilience and success. With a portfolio of convenience stores, gas stations, and real estate properties across the Triad area of North Carolina, the company has also established two thriving B2B business services divisions—Spectrum ATM and Spectrum Bankard—serving over 3500 merchants nationwide in the Southeastern US.
